Dr. Paul Scott

Dr. Paul Scott – Founder, Program Director & Co-ordinator

Anaesthetic Specialist at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Australia, Paul has been using Simulation Based Education for training a wide variety of medical professionals for the past six years. Paul has a special interest in Crisis Resource Management and Error Management.

Paul's engaging and dynamic communication style has developed out of broad ranging interests and experiences. He has used simulation based techniques whilst in Malawi, and also has worked in Guatemala and East Timor. He has also been a natural history guide on expeditions in both Arctic and Antarctic.

Having been at the forefront of medical education for two decades, Associate Professor Taraporewalla has been a leader in the area of medical simulation since its inception. He has developed a variety of simulation based and other courses, is published widely and is actively involved in teaching.

Dr. Hau Tan

Dr. Hau Tan – Facilitator


Dr Hau Tan is a consultant anaesthetist working at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He is a respected educator working as a lead instructor in Anaesthetic Simulation and Airway Courses and running exam preparation tutorials for Advanced Anaesthetic Trainees. His professional interests include anaesthesia for ENT and vascular surgery. He likes to drive fast cars and play basketball.

Matt is very passionate about education and has experience running and developing coursework in various countries. He currently works as an Anaesthetic Staff Specialist at Royal North Shore Hospital, NSW and serves as Departmental Head of Academics & Research.

Matt is currently conducting empirical trials on extreme levels of sleep deprivation and the functional ability to conduct activities of daily living. He’s currently only managed to enrol himself in this trial, aided by his two young children, who provide a constant source of insomnia.

Dr. Cathy Brooksbank

A crises instructor since 2004, Cathy successfully manages a private anaesthetic practise in Brisbane and a young family. Cathy’s passion is enabling other professionals to hone their human performance skills through knowing their environment, utilising all their resources and practising effective communication.

Eliza is a full time Staff Specialist Anaesthetist at Redcliffe Hospital. Teaching (especially simulation) is her passion, which is evident by the recent completion of her fellowship in simulation and Education’ at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. She has also completed a Graduate Certificate course in ‘Flexible Learning and Simulation for Health Professionals’.

Dr. Mitchell Morse

Dr. Mitchell Morse – Facilitator

Mitch is a full time staff specialist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Anaesthetic Department. He completed a combined airway and bariatric fellowship in 2013. His professional interests include bariatric and major upper GI surgery, as well as a maintaining a large research and Quality Assurance portfolio. Mitch chases the snow to for snowboarding and runs a competitive BBQ team, recently winning the Australian BBQ championship

Currently working as a Specialist Intensivist/ Anaesthetist at the Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital. Jason has a special interest in advanced airway management, trauma and aeromedical retrieval When Jason is not working he is busy trying to catch his 3 young boys all under the age of 5.
